Executive Director

Nura Aman is a Founder and a volunteer Executive Director of the Eritrean Parents Liaison Council. Nura is currently a School Community Advisor with the Toronto District School Board-Model Schools serving inner city schools ensuring that every student succeeds academically and develops a positive sense of well-being and that every family and community has access to opportunities and social support. Nura became involved with the settlement of newcomer parents and children in Toronto in the early 2000s and since then has become an advocate supporting parents and children in the Toronto education system.
Nura is a recipient of numerous awards, including the Karen Community Award in 2016 in acknowledgement of her unfailing dedication and commitment to inspiring others and serving the community, the Share the Light Awards in 2017 for Outstanding Community Impact, and in 2018 Distinguished Mother’s Award in recognition of her role in impacting communities through passionate volunteerism for social health and stability of families.
Nura is a graduate of York University, Arts and Professional Studies specialized in Gender and Women’s Studies, Humber College Social Services Work, and George Brown College Community Work and Settlement Work.
