Board Chair

In Algeria, Nora Hachemi was a teacher and a guidance counsellor. Since 2001 Nora has been working in the settlement sector. As a settlement worker Nora assists newcomer parents in elementary schools and newcomer students in High schools. She also assists students who are not new to the country but new to the Canadian School System. In order to help families to be familiarized with the school system, Nora works closely and involves the school staff (teachers and administrators) to address the needs and issues that immigrant parents face when they try to support their children in the schools.
Nora liaises with external community agencies in order to come to schools and help families through various programs either in the schools or the community by offering different types of workshops and information sessions. She also provides on-going training and educational programs in the schools or in the community.
One of Nora’s important role is to facilitate communication between parents and the school administration and teachers. She also informs parents about their rights and responsibilities according to the Canadian school system to help strengthening the bridge between the two parties which plays a big role in the child’s success.
